An icon has to be recognisable at 40 pixels and still feel considered at full size. I explored a simple mark with a strong silhouette, deliberate colour, and enough personality to stand out on a crowded home screen.
Working this small forces ruthless prioritisation: one idea, clearly expressed. There’s nowhere to hide detail, so the concept has to carry it.
If an idea doesn’t survive at 40 pixels, it wasn’t simple enough.
