Everyone has a mental model of a calculator, so the goal wasn’t novelty, it was clarity: a comfortable grid, unmistakable operator keys, and a display that stays readable as numbers grow.
The interesting work was in touch ergonomics and visual grouping — making the primary actions obvious without shouting, and keeping the whole thing calm to look at.
When users already know the model, your job is to respect it, not reinvent it.
