A 404 is a failure state, but it doesn’t have to feel like one. I focused on acknowledging the problem plainly, keeping a light tone, and — most importantly — giving a clear way back.
The design job is empathy under constraint: reduce frustration, keep personality, and always offer the next step. An error page is a chance to show you care about the edges.
